New puppies are a bundle of joy. At Capitol Illini, our experienced veterinarians can answer all your questions regarding vaccinations, nutrition, and growth. Food is an especially important topic as what you feed your new puppy can significantly impact their overall health. We’ll discuss this during the first wellness visit, which includes:

  • Full physical exam from nose to tail
  • Heartworm preventive
  • Intestinal parasite screening and deworming
  • Flea/tick control
  • Vaccinations and booster shots
  • Health assessment

We recommend the following vaccination schedule for puppies:

  • Distemper/Parvo/Hepatitis vaccine
  • Rabies vaccine to be administered at 16 weeks of age or older.
  • Additional vaccines such as kennel cough (Bordetella) and Lepto (Leptosporosis). Lyme and Canine Influenza vaccines are also recommended based on your puppy’s lifestyle and risk profile.

Capitol Illini also offers microchipping services for all new puppies.

We advise spaying or neutering your puppy at 6-12 months of age depending on breed and size.
