Vaccinations

Making sure your pet stays current with their vaccinations is an important part of keeping them healthy. At Capitol Illini Veterinary Services, our vaccination programs and protocols are based on research recommended by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), the American Veterinary Medical Association® (AVMA), and the American Association of Feline Practitioners® (AAFP).

Our doctors review your pet’s vaccination requirements during routine wellness visits and keep them on a schedule for booster shots depending on their individual needs.

Adult Dog Vaccinations. We recommend Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Para-influenza (DA2PP), Rabies, and Leptospirosis. We also recommend bordetella (kennel cough) and canine influenza (flu) for dogs that visit boarding facilities or dog parks, and Lyme vaccine for dogs exposed to areas where ticks are prevalent.

Adult Cat Vaccinations. We recommend Feline Distemper/Upper Respiratory (FVRCPC) and Rabies, as well as the Feline Leukemia (FeLV) for all kittens and indoor/outdoor cats.

It’s also important to note that even pets who live primarily indoors should be vaccinated, as they can still be exposed to a disease. Your Capitol Illini Vet veterinarian can advise you which vaccinations are required or recommended for your pet based on age, health, and lifestyle.
