Capitol Illini Pet Dental Care
Just like their owners, pets need regular dental care to maintain good oral health. At Capitol Illini, we recommend a dental visit at least once a year to keep your pet’s teeth clean and prevent the onset of periodontal disease.
Your pet’s oral hygiene is an important indicator of their overall health. We recommend routine dental cleaning to prevent plaque and tartar buildup. We provide digital dental x-rays to look below the gum line for any signs of periodontal disease.
Periodontal disease is caused by bacterial infection and if untreated, can lead to bad breath, bleeding gums, and tooth loss. If you notice changes in your pet’s eating/chewing behavior, please bring them in for a professional dental exam. Schedule an appointment today!
What to Expect
At Capitol Illini, we evaluate your pet’s oral health during the annual wellness visit and provide full-service oral exams when you bring your pet in for a dental cleaning. Our experienced vets thoroughly examine your pet’s teeth and gums and take digital x-rays to check under the gum line.
We use general anesthesia to ensure your pet doesn’t feel any pain during the cleaning procedure, which also includes:
- Ultrasonic scaling to clean each tooth above and below the gum line
- Teeth polishing to create a smooth surface more resistant to plaque
- Temporary sealant to prevent bacteria and plaque formation
- Full mouth Dental X-rays to assess bone loss and tooth root problems
If necessary, we perform simple and complex tooth extractions. Our experienced veterinarians are committed to providing the best dental care for your pet.
