We keep you informed of your pet’s medical needs and can offer advanced treatment and specialist referrals if necessary. Healthy pets make happy people, so bring your beloved pet to Capitol Illini for regular preventive care visits at either of our two locations: Chatham or Springfield.
Making sure your pet stays current with their vaccinations is an important part of keeping them healthy. At Capitol Illini Veterinary Services, our vaccination programs and protocols are based on research recommended by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), the American Veterinary Medical Association® (AVMA), and the American Association of Feline Practitioners® (AAFP).
Our doctors review your pet’s vaccination requirements during routine wellness visits and keep them on a schedule for booster shots depending on their individual needs.
Adult Dog Vaccinations. We recommend Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Para-influenza (DA2PP), Rabies, and Leptospirosis. We also recommend bordetella (kennel cough) and canine influenza (flu) for dogs that visit boarding facilities or dog parks, and Lyme vaccine for dogs exposed to areas where ticks are prevalent.
Adult Cat Vaccinations. We recommend Feline Distemper/Upper Respiratory (FVRCPC) and Rabies, as well as the Feline Leukemia (FeLV) for all kittens and indoor/outdoor cats.
Adult and Senior Care
In addition to the above vaccinations we also provide annual physical exams and an Adult Preventive Profile including blood counts, chemistry panels, heartworm testing, and intestinal parasite screening. We also review nutrition and weight management and answer any questions you have about maintaining a healthy lifestyle for your pet.
Your pet is considered a senior when they reach 7 years of age. Senior pets have special needs and should come in for a wellness check at least twice a year. At Capitol Illini, we offer full physical exams for aging pets as well as a Senior Preventive Profile that includes urinalysis and thyroid hormone screening. We also talk about what to do if you notice any changes in your senior pet’s appetite or behavior.
Capitol Illini offers microchip ID for cats and dogs during routine wellness visits. We use the Home Again® microchipping system, a recovery identification service that provides much needed peace of mind if your pet gets lost.
